Compute Connections

Compute connections integrate ElemBio Cloud with provider-specific compute environments that offer the computational resources necessary to execute bioinformatic workflows. For a provider to launch workflows and perform bioinformatic analyses, flows in ElemBio Cloud use a compute connection to communicate with the compute environment.

Compute connections must use compatible storage connections. Not all compute connection providers can provide a storage connection. To resolve this, set up a storage connection with a separate provider. The following providers support compute connections:

• ElemBio Catalyst: Uses compute resources for AWS HealthOmics. Element creates and manages all compute connection resources on your behalf.
• AWS: Connects to compute resources for AWS HealthOmics that you manage independently in your AWS account.
• DNAnexus: Connects to compute resources in DNAnexus that you manage on the DNAnexus platform.
• Seqera Platform: Connects to Seqera Platform compute environments that can connect to AWS or Google compute resources.

Compute Connection Statuses

Each compute connection card has a badge that indicates one of the following connection statuses:

• Connected: ElemBio Cloud successfully verifies the connection.
• Unverified: ElemBio Cloud cannot verify the compute connection and the associated provider credentials. The compute connection is unavailable until the issue is resolved. To resolve, verify the connection and review any error messages.
• Expired: ElemBio Catalyst subscription is expired, and the compute connection is disabled and cannot be used to upload runs. After 14 days from the expiration date, ElemBio Catalyst is no longer visible in AVITI OS. To resubscribe, contact Element Technical Support.

Add a Compute Connection

ElemBio Catalyst includes a preconfigured compute connection that Element manages for you. For other compute connections, an administrator must set up the required providers, storage connections, and compute connections. For more information, see one of the following pages based on your provider:

• AWS
• DNAnexus
• Seqera

Managing Compute Connections

The following buttons on the compute connection cards allow you to manage connections. The available actions is based on on your user permissions.

• Verify: Verifies the permissions for data transfers.
  • If the compute connection is connected, then a green success message appears.
  • If a red error message appears, then review the error message to address the issue.
• Edit: Modifies the compute connection settings. Changes take effect immediately. Also, ElemBio Cloud does not allow you to change the region for a compute connection.
• Delete: Removes the compute connection and all associated flows from ElemBio Cloud. When you are prompted, enter the name of the compute connection to confirm deletion.
