Compute connections

Connect provider compute environments to run bioinformatic workflows.

Compute connections integrate ElemBio Cloud with provider-specific compute environments that offer the computational resources necessary to execute bioinformatic workflows. For a provider to launch workflows and perform bioinformatic analyses, flows in ElemBio Cloud use a compute connection to communicate with the compute environment.

Compute connections must use compatible storage connections. Not all compute providers offer storage, so you might need a separate provider for the storage connection.

ElemBio Catalyst, AWS, and Seqera Platform support compute connections. For the features that each provider supports, see Provider types.

ElemBio Catalyst™ includes a preconfigured compute connection that Element Biosciences manages for you. For every other provider, an administrator adds the compute connection using the steps on the page for that provider.

Compute connection statuses​

Each compute connection card has a badge that indicates one of the following connection statuses:

  • Connected: ElemBio Cloud successfully verified the connection and the credentials for the associated services.
  • Unverified: ElemBio Cloud cannot verify the connection or the associated provider credentials. The associated services are unavailable until you resolve the issue. To resolve, verify the connection, and then review any error messages that appear.
  • Expired: The ElemBio Catalyst™ subscription expired, so the connection is disabled and cannot be used to upload runs. For details, see Expired subscription.

Managing compute connections​

Use the following buttons on a compute connection card to manage a connection.

The available actions are based on your user permissions.

  • Verify: Verifies the permissions for data transfers. A green success message confirms the connection. If a red error message appears, review the message to address the issue.
  • Edit: Modifies the settings. Changes take effect immediately.
  • Delete: Removes the item from ElemBio Cloud. When prompted, enter the name to confirm deletion.

You cannot change the region for a compute connection. Deleting a compute connection also removes all of its associated flows.
